Bond insists request won't change stance

Tottenham assistant manager Kevin Bond insists the clubs stance won't be affected by Luka Modric's transfer request.

Modric has been subject to intense speculation regarding his future this summer and is keen on a move to rivals Chelsea.

The Blues have seen two bids of £22m and £27m rejected as Spurs look to hold onto their star man.

Bond believes that, while the saga has to be sorted between Modric and Daniel Levy, any request won't alter the chairman's already strong resolve.

"If he's handed in a transfer request, he's handed in a transfer request," said Bond.

"The chairman will do what he wants to do with that but his line so far has been pretty clear - he won't allow Luka to leave the club.

"He wants to keep all our best players so I'm not sure that makes any difference to our situation at the moment.

"It's a situation that Luka Modric needs to clear up with the chairman and we need the season to get under way with everybody pulling in the same direction, all of the players, everybody pulling in the same direction.

"Hopefully by the time the season gets under way and this situation gets sorted out, that's exactly what will happen."

Reports suggest that a foot injury kept Modric out of Spurs 1-0 defeat to Kaizer Chiefs today.

tonbridge - you are so wrong.

As a paying fan I am backing the board, if we sell Luka it sends the message that we are content with 5th/6th spot. Yially it makes sense to sell someone that does not want to play for you but by not selling him it tells the rest of the team / fans / other teams we are serious about pushing on.
Chelsea are not the team they were and having Luka sitting in the stands at WHL will not make them stronger, If we sell him it will. With Essien out they need a Midfielder and whomever they bring in will know they are 2nd choice, the other players will know he is 2nd choice and so will the fans.
Luka signed a 6 year deal, I am not sying he has to honour all six years but come on this is taking the mick. 1st time ever I agree with Arsenal regarding Fabregas however Nasri has to go (1 year left you have to sell).
Luka is a pro and when we start the season and hopefully get off to a decent staff all of these artices will be chip papaer (Till Janruary)
