When Christian Benteke signed for Aston Villa last summer from Genk, few could have envisaged the impact that he would have on the Midlands club, nor the Premier League. His 23 goals in 39 games last term ensured that Villa retained their topflight status and had the bigger clubs swarming around his signature. But after he signed a new deal at Villa Park it was time to settle down and go again.
Now, as the end of the year approaches, the Daily Star are reporting that the bullish Belgian is a £28m target for Tottenham as they go about sculpting a squad ready for a top 4 finish.
Roberto Soldado came into White Hart Lane over the summer and is the club's joint top scorer this season with three goals in three games, but Benteke started this season how he finished the last. He struck four goals in his first four games, including a brace against Arsenal, and creating 12 chances.
He has the power, and movement and the composure in front of goal to lead a line effectively and is just what Spurs need, in my opinion. It's a long season, but with Benteke, Soldado and Jermain Defoe offering themselves to Andre Villas-Boas then Spurs are in with every chance of firing themselves into the Champions League.
