Tottenham and Aston Villa have both had seasons to forget this time round, but their tie in the final weekend of the Premier League means nothing. Spurs can secure their sixth place finish, while Villa could climb to 12th. Here are three key battles that will shape Tim Sherwood's last game in charge of the north London club.
1) Christian Eriksen vs Matthew Lowton
The former Ajax playmaker has been the shining light in an otherwise limp season for Spurs, and he has won points for the club on his own with his creativity and recent splurt of goals. The Dane has scored seven league goals for Spurs, and has made 64 key passes.
Lowton has made 17 starts for Villa this season and has averaged 2.4 clearances per game, but will have to keep Eriksen as wide as possible this afternoon.
2 Fabian Delph vs Paulinho
Delph - Villa's player of the season - will have the energy to win the midfield battle today, though Paulinho will have the grit and the experience. Both players love the scrappy side of the game and it will be interesting to see who gets the better of the duel.
3) Harry Kane vs Ron Vlaar
Kane is good in the air, but Vlaar beats him hands down in every department. He has the experience, the strength and the composure to shut the young Spurs striker out of the game. Should Kane get some space though, I expect him to make Villa pay.
