Levy confirms star players won't be sold

Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy has moved to back Harry Redknapp's stance that key players will not be sold.

Excellent campaigns froom star players Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Rafael Van der Vaart has seen the three of them linked with moves to bigger clubs with Manchester United, Manchester City and Barcelona all thought to be sniffing around Spurs consistent performers.

However, Levy has vowed to not entertain any bid for the key trio insisting that he wants the club to build on their success, not dismantle in from the inside.

In an open letter to supporters, Levy said "We have spent years and hundreds of millions of pounds investing in our first-team squad and in creating a settled team.

"Having quality players means they automatically attract attention from other clubs - but I can assure you that we have no reason to sell, and every intention of retaining, our key players.

"We shall simply not entertain any approaches for these players."

The Spurs Chairman also confirmed that a number of players will be sold in the transfer window in order to streamline one of the Premier League's largest squads.

"We currently have one of the largest squads in the Premier League and, given the 25-man squad rule, it is no longer practical to retain players who are unlikely to qualify within that limit." Levy added.

"We shall, therefore, look to reduce the number of these players during the coming summer transfer window in order to operate both effectively and efficiently."

The likes of Sebastien Bassong, Alan Hutton and Robbie Keane are expected to leave White Hart Lane this summer as a major clear-out begins.
