Spurs gearing up for Gary

Tottenham are said to be readying a bid for Bolton Wanderers centre-back Gary Cahill.

Manager Harry Redknapp is reportedly a big admirer of the former Aston Villa defender and enquired about his availability back in January.

However, he faces competition from Manchester City and Arsenal for the 25-year-old's signature.

Cahill will also be free to talk to other clubs should any side match the £17m release club Cahill has in his contract.

"People have to make sure they come up with the right offer," Bolton manager Owen Coyle said.

"He won't be going on the cheap, that's for sure.

"Gary could play for anyone and looking at a few of the deals that are going on right now, it surprises me there hasn't been a concrete offer."

Coyle is reportedly keen on a players-plus cash sale as any move the club receives would end up helping the club reduce their £90m debt.

Redknapp could end up throwing in out-of-favour defender Sebastien Bassong into any deal while another option could see Danny Rose join the Reebok Stadium on a season-long loan.

Should Spurs miss out on Cahill, they are expected to battle it out with Arsenal for the signing of Blackburn Rovers' £8m rated Christopher Samba.
