Title challenge on the cards for Sandro

Tottenham midfielder Sandro believes the club are on the brink of mounting a serious challenge for the title.

The 22-year-old, who signed from Internacional last summer, was instrumental in Spurs reaching the quarter-finals of the Champions League and his performances in the centre of the park helped the club finish fifth place.

However, despite showing superb European form, the Spurs suffered domestically and missed out on competiting in Europe's top competition and will instead compete in the Europa League.

Nevertheless, the Brazilian international is proud of the club's acheivements last season and feels that Spurs can push on for the title next season.

"I believe that we deserved more from last season," the 22-year-old told Hotspur magazine.

"We showed our quality by producing great performances in big games.

"Sometimes that's just how it goes in football. But we can still hold our heads up high and return next season as a stronger team.

"Tottenham have a strong squad with great players, so why not?

"We have proved that we can live with the best and the talent in the squad is definitely good enough to fight for the title."

Since his move, Sandro has become an integral member of the Spurs starting XI and concedes that there is more to come over the course of the coming season.

"I believe I am well adapted for the characteristics of the English game because football here is for a tough and strong type of person," he added.

"I think I have done well so far and can only improve with time."
