Friedel signs two-year deal with Spurs

Tottenham have made their first signing of the transfer window with the aquisition of former Aston Villa goalkeeper Brad Friedel.

40-year old Friedel was out of contract at Villa Park and has signed a two-year deal with the North London outfit.

Redknapp on the move said "Brad is a top goalkeeper of real quality who has great experience.

"It is good to have three such experienced top goalkeepers at the club in Gomes, Carlo (Cudicini) and now Brad, and it means we have competition for places particularly with the number of games we will hopefully face next year both domestically and in Europe as well."

The signing of Friedel is expected to push error-prone goalkeeper Gomes towards the exit door with former club PSV Eindhoven mooted as potential suitors.
