Redknapp confirms Adebayor interest

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp has confirmed he is interested in bringing Emmanuel Adebayor to White Hart Lane.

The Manchester City striker is unwanted at the Etihad stadium and City are keen to sell the former Arsenal man.

Reports yesterday suggested Spurs are interested in taking the 27-year-old to back to North London on loan with an option to buy but are said to be baulking at the players' £175,000-weekly-wages.

And despite reservations about the Togolese forward having played for rivals Arsenal for three-years, Redknapp is hoping a deal can be completed.

"The chairman has been speaking about it. I am not sure if it will happen. He is a name that has been mentioned, certainly," Redknapp, who is currently in South Africa for the clubs pre-season tour, said.

"I spoke to the chairman about loaning the player and if we could work out a deal for him, I would like to bring him to the club."

The player himself is keen to leave City having been left out of Roberto Mancini's squad for their pre-season tour of America.

Spanish giants Real Madrid, of whom Adebayor spent the latter half of last season on loan, are also monitoring the situation but are more interested in Neymar of Santos, Atletico Madrid's Sergio Ageruo and highly rated FC Porto forward Radamel Falcao.
