Spurs close in on Afellay

Tottenham are reportedly closing in on the signing of Barcelona midfielder Ibrahim Afellay.

The Dutch international has played little more than a bit-part role since his move to the Nou Camp in January.

Now with the Catalan giants acquisition of Chilean international Alexis Sanchez, it is thought that the current European champions are willing to listen to offers for the 25-year-old.

Barca are also keen to free up the wages and boost their transfer coffers as they continue their pursuit of Arsenal's Cesc Febregas.

Chief Spurs scout Ian Broomfield was reportedly in attendance during Barcelona's clash with Brazilian outfit Internacional for last nights Audi Cup encounter as Afellay took to the field in an exciting 45 minutes for the Blaugrana.

And he would have been impressed by the former PSV players performance as he set up the opener and hit the post in his first-half cameo.

Spurs target Leandro Damiao also played his part for Internacional last night, scoring the equaliser that bought the game to 2-2 while running the Barcelona defence ragged all night before missing his penalty as the Brazilian side lost 4-2 on penalties.
