Modric saga worries Bond

Tottenham assistant manager Kevin Bond has conceded that want-away midfielder Luka Modric could still be sold this transfer window.

The 25-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this summer, with Chelsea the most likely desitination for the Croatian.

The Blues have, thus far, failed with two bids of £22m and £27m while Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay admitted last week that the West London outfit were considering a new approach for the diminutive playmaker.

Such news has seen Harry Redknapp's number-two give the biggest hint yet that Spurs are ready to cash in on their prized asset, contradicting chairman Daniel Levy's previous statement that the player isn't for sale 'at any price'.

"We desperately don't want to lose him, but everyone has a price," Bond said

"If somebody came along and the money turns your head and he did go - although the chairman is adamant he doesn't want to sell him - then we'd have to get on with it."

Reports suggest that the Blues are ready to launch a £40m bid in order to land their man after they missed out on Javier Pastore.

And Bond concedes that while the club are loathe to losing their best players, transfers remain a key aspect of the game.

"Transfers are part and parcel of the game but you don't want to lose your best players and he certainly is one of our best players," he added.
