Van der Vaart confident Spurs can cope without Modric

Tottenham midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart is confident that the club can cope without Luka Modric should the club opt to sell the talanted 25-year-old.

Chairman Daniel Levy has continuously insisted that the in-demand midfielder is not for sale at any price despite constant speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea.

The Blues have had two bids of £22m and £27m turned down for the Croatian international and are said to be readying a third bid of around £30m in order to secure his signature.

And Van der Vaart believes that the squad is more than capable of coping with Modric and is of the opinion that they can re-break into the top four without the dimiutive playmaker.

"There is a lot of speculation about Luka and we don't know when he is going to leave," Van der Vaart said.

"I hope he will stay, but we still have plenty of other fantastic players and a team good enough to finish in the top four.

"We still have Niko Kranjcar, Jake Livermore, we have fantastic players.

"If he leaves then Kranjcar is a fantastic player and he's a little bit like Luka, he can play there.

"We have a good squad and when we play like we did against Hearts, we know we can win against everybody.

"Manchester City have spent a lot of money this summer, and so have Manchester United. But we are different at Tottenham, and it's not a problem for me."

Dawson has also expressed his desire to see Modric remain a Spurs player come September 1st.

"You want to keep your best players. It is as simple as that," Dawson said.

"I have said it before and the chairman has come out and said he is not selling. The lads certainly want him to stay."

The Spurs captain also believes that should the club bring in Adebayor, as some reports have suggested, then the Togolese striker will be a welcome addition to the North London outfit.

"He is a top player and whoever comes in is always going to improve the squad," he added.

"If you want to do well, you can't have enough quality."
