Redknapp fearful of Modric

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admits that Luka Modric may not be mentally right to play if he fails to secure a move to Chelsea.

The Blues have courted the 25-year-old all summer and look set to launch a third bid for the diminutive playmaker after seeing offers of £22m and £27m rejected by chairman Daniel Levy.

Redknapp left Modric out of the squad in the 3-0 defeat to Manchester United on Monday claiming his 'head wasn't right'.

The former Portsmouth manager remains confident that Spurs can retain the midfielder beyond the transfer window but fears he may not be at his best if he doesn't secure a move to Stamford Bridge.

"We can all sit here and say 'he'll be right' but we don't know what is in his head," Redknapp said.

"Who knows? None of us know how he is going to feel. That's the risk you run.

"But he is here and he has to go on with it, for his own good.

"He has to come out and be the great player that we all know he is, he has to have a great season."
