Van der Vaart confident of Modric stay

Tottenham midfielder Rafael Van der Vaart is confident that team-mate Luka Modric will stay at White Hart Lane amidst speculation that Chelsea are preparing a third offer for the Croatian.

Spurs have received two offers of £22m and £27m this summer, both of which have been re-buffed.

The 25-year-old has been linked with a move to the West London side and is said to have handed in an official transfer request in order to force a move a Stamford Bridge.

And the Dutch international knows the frustration of Modric being denied a move to Chelsea but expects the diminutive playmaker to give 100% should he still be at White Hart Lane come September 1st.

'I'm really happy that he's going to stay because he's an important player for us,' Van der Vaart told Sky Sports News.

'Almost every day we ask him to stay and say, "Have a great season - then you can go."

'The chairman always said he's going to stay, no questions about it.

'I understand he was a little bit disappointed, but in a few weeks he's going to be happy again.'

Reports suggest Chelsea final offer will be around the £30m mark.
