Harry admits England would be tough to turn down

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp admits it would be difficult to turn down the offer of the England job should he be offered the role.

Redknapp has been strongly linked to succeed Fabio Capello when he steps down next summer after Euro 2012.

His stock has risen during his three-year rein at White Hart Lane and while he would find the role tough to turn down, the Spurs manager confesses that it would be a 'poisoned chalice' should England win the competition next summer.

"Yes, it would be a poisoned chalice. I say good luck to whoever takes over if they win it - because it would be like following Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United," he said.

"I'm not pushing myself for the job; whoever gets offered the job, if they're an Englishman it would be hard to say no because it's your country."

"It would be difficult for any Englishman to turn the job down."

Reports yesterday claimed that Redknapp had already spoken to the FA about taking over from Capello before Euro 2012, speculation that has been fiercly denied by the former Portsmouth manager.

"I haven't heard nothing from anybody so I'll just get on with my job and see what happens," Redknapp added.

"You never know what happens in this game do you? You never know what's just around the corner.

"I've never discussed anything with Daniel about England. There are plenty of other boys about who could do the job. We'll see how we go."
