Drogba tops Redknapp wish list

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba tops Harry Redknapp's list of players he feels will improve Tottenham's bid for Champions League football next season.

The Ivorian ticks all the boxes for the ideal forward that Redknapp craves in order to accomodate Rafael Van der Vaart in a 4-4-1-1 formation. With 144 goals in 301 Chelsea appearances, the signing of Drogba, who has twelve months left to play on his Chelsea contrac, will prove a major coup for the Spurs manager should a deal be made.

The two major stumbling blocks, however, would be whether Spurs are willing to match Drogba's current £130k per week he currently earns with Chelsea. The second would be Chelsea would want to sell to a rival that they feel are improving with every season. However, with Drogba now 33, the Blues may be willing to cash in on the Ivory Coast international rather than let him leave on a free next year.

As reported yesterday, Eden Hazard remains a top target on Redknapp's radar and the Spurs manager is reportedly travelling to France again tonight to watch the Belgian in action for Lille against Sochaux. 

Further members of the list include former England captain David Beckham, who spent a short spell at Tottenham earlier in the year, and Scott Parker of recently relegated West Ham United. Any bid for the £10m rated player is likely to be rivalled by North London rivals Arsenal

One player who may be heading out of White Hart Lane is striker Jermain Defoe who admitted today that he is finding life hard on the sidelines and, after only starting 15 Premier League games this season, may be looking to secure a move away from White Hart Lane.

Furthermore, Van der Vaart has committed his future to Tottenham after speculation linked him away from N17 after the club missed out on Champions League football. He joins the likes of Luka Modric and Gareth Bale, who have both been linked with big money moves, in issuing a statement of intent to remain with Tottenham Hotspur.
