Dawson praise for game announcement

Tottenham defender Michael Dawson has praised Premier League officials following the announcement that the clubs season opener against Everton has been postponed.

Days of rioting began in the Tottenham area on Saturday and while disorder may have quelled in recent days, member of the Premier League have opted to postpone the game following a review of the situation on Thursday morning with the Met police.

And Spurs captain Dawson believes the decision is the right one insisting that the safety of players and fans is priority, as frustrating as it is to both parties.

"It is frustrating as we worked for six weeks trying to get fit and unfortunately the first day of the season isn't going to be happening for us," the 27-year-old said.

"But the most important thing is the safety of all the people involved, the police won't have called it off too lightly."

Chelsea captain John Terry echoed Dawson's sentiments insisting the police have made the right decision by calling the game off.

"A lot of kids will have been at the game and the safety of the public is the most important thing so it was the right thing to do," the England captain added.
