Modric set for Spurs stay

The saga of Luka Modric's proposed transfer from Tottenham appears to be over after Harry Redknapp confirmed he expects the Croatian to remain at White Hart Lane.

Modric has been linked with a move to Chelsea all summer, who in turn have had two bids of £22m and £27m rejected for the 25-year-old.

Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas remained coy over reports of a third offer for the midfielder but Redknapp has now claimed that the player had a meeting with chairman Daniel Levy who again claimed he wasn't for sale.

"He'll (Modric) be playing on Sunday for sure. I think there was a meeting. Daniel just said the same thing, he's not for sale," he said.

"It's been difficult for him but we want him to stay and he will stay. He should be fit for Sunday.

"He could have kicked up and been a problem and if he had done it would have been difficult to keep him.

"If players want to be destructive they can be but he's not got that in his nature.

"He'll stay and play and will be great as he has been every other year."
