Does Andros Townsend deserve a new contract - A statistical look
It seems that in current day football that if you have a storming performance in a single game it is enough to warrant a new big money contract extension. It supposedly happed with West Brom forward Saido Berahino after his display against Manchester United, and it has now happened with Andros Townsend after he showcased his talents on his England debut last week.
Okay, Townsend is slightly different, he has impressed us all with his form for Tottenham this season, but does he deserve a new contract?
Andre Villas-Boas needs some credit for handing him such an important role in his side considering the wealth of quality in his midfield and the gaping hole that was left by Gareth Bale. Townsend has played six games this season so far in the Premier League, but is yet to score.
He doesn't yet offer the devastating, piercing runs into central areas the Bale did, nor the goals, but he is brilliant at what he does. He tender age adds to his game, with Townsend willing to run at any defender no matter how established they are. His no fear attitude seems to be paying off, also, as he's completed 33/48 take ons this term.
He has created nine chances for his team-mates and completed 81% of his passes.
Does he deserve a new contract? Well, it's hard to judge unless you know the ins and outs of his current deal - which I don't. But considering the potential he has and how is helping Spurs right now then you'd have to suggest that yes, yes he does.
What do you think, does he deserve a new contract?

Of Course he does. There should be no question
Definitely. For his progress over the last 9 months or so he deserves one. He seems to have a strong work ethic and will only get better.
