Defoe: A Tribute To The Departing Spurs Striker

Defoe joined Tottenham from London rivals West Ham in January 2004 as a 21-year-old for an initial £6 million rising to 7 million, with Bobby Zamora going the other way as a bargaining chip.

The striker hasn’t always held down a starting place at Spurs but has always been seen as somewhat of a fan favourite, for his clinical finishing and passion on the pitch.

Over his two spells at White Hart Lane, Defoe has to date scored 91 goals in 275 appearances for Spurs, which is a ratio of around 1 goal every 3 games. A respectable record and his goals scored are something I’m sure Tottenham will miss.

Defoe has also been a regular feature for the England national team for the best part of 10 years and with Defoe opting for his move to Toronto, it will more than likely put to bed any realistic hopes of Defoe making the World Cup in Brazil in the summer.

One of England’s best finishers we’ve produced over the last decade, a long serving servant to Spurs and just a genuinely nice guy. I know Defoe in the MLS will be a defenders nightmare, and Toronto are signing a gem.

I can still remember that game, that was an all out action, one hell of a game really! I can't wait for their performance on the world cup, I'll surely go for these players for my world cup betting list.
