Should Sherwood Swoop For Striker With 17 Goals In 15 Games, Offload Holtby And Look For Left-Back This Month?

Ask any Spurs fan if they have enjoyed this season and I am sure the majority would say no, although there have certainly been perks. With all the changes behind the scenes and the losses to London rivals Arsenal and West Ham, twice, things could have gone better. A lot better. But I am here to suggest to Tim Sherwood that he needs to make a few changes this month to spark the Spurs revival.

The first thing I would do, is sign a forward to come in and replace the departing Jermain Defoe. Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor are currently leading the line, but there is one striker who I think should come in and help them, and that man is Alfred Finnbogason.

The 24-year-old is currently plying his trade with Dutch side Heerenveen and is in scintillating form. So far this season he has scored 17 goals in 15 games in the league and claimed five assists, which I think you would agree is a sensational return.

I would also look to get in a left-back to solidify the backline, as Kyle Naughton and Danny Rose have been very poor this season.

Then, just to round it up, I would get rid of Lewis Holtby, as there seem to be a host of players standing in his way in terms of the first team. Holtby is a decent little player who offers a lot to the cause, but to see him rusting in the background is frustrating and the money could probably be better spent elsewhere.

Why Holtby, why not siggy or any other of the number of midfielders. It is too early to judge these players where the whole team and the manager is new. Send some of them on loan work with the others and may be bring in another quality creative Mid like Cabye. On strikers we have needed quality strikers for the last 5 years or so. Soldado hopefully will come good, Ade will stop playing once he receives a new contract - so don't give him one. Develop Lamella as second striker, buy 2 more quality forward/strikers like Reus. Left back is weak, but not a major problem if the rest is working fine.

Listing a players stats from the dutch league is pointless. Look at Bony, he was a goal machine before he went to Swansea, Chadli was ripping teams open in that league before coming here and looking average. Granted there are exceptions...van nistleroy and Suarez to name a couple but I wouldn't be buying a striker from the dutch league on totals alone. Does the guy fit the system Sherwood is looking to play? I'm also of the opinion that Holtby should stay. He'd break his back to fit into any position or system the manager wants and that's what we need. Not some jumped up average player saying he needs games for his WC chances. It shows a lack of respect for the club and says..."it's all about me". I'd keep siggy and Holtby. I'd get rid of Chadli in a heartbeat, never understood the transfer in the first place. Lamela, at that price should have been a starter from the off on that side, with siggy for backup and Lennon and townsend on other side.

Dutch league is no great indicator that a player will succeed in the BPL. But a striker is needed, LB also (although not a priority IMO)
