Redknapp admits Spurs fears

Harry Redknapp has confessed he feared for his Tottenham squad heading into the final week of the transfer window.

The Luka Modric saga engulfed the papers and rumours ciruclated throughout the summer of the Croatian's discontent of life at White Hart lane.

Chelsea were keen to take the 26-year-old to Stamford Bridge yet failed to snare their man despite offering a final £40m bid for the diminutive playmaker.

His flirtations with the Blues left some of the squad members unwilling to train due to their unhappines of the fiasco and Redknapp admits that morale was low after the season started.

"I felt there was a bad feeling around the club," said Redknapp. 

"You know when things are not going right: Luka wanting to go, three or four other players not happy, not pulling their weight in training, disrupting a little bit. 

"We looked very, very lightweight. It was a team that scared me a little bit."

Nonetheless, Spurs bought in both Emmanuel Adebayor and Scott Parker before the transfer window slammed shut and both have had a positive impact in the recent upturn in form with Spurs picking up four wins out of four league games, including a vital win in the North London derby.

And Redknapp has praised the England international, adding: "I just knew we needed to get Scott Parker into the team, get Luka's mind right, and then we would be a different team."
